Health Sciences North is seeking a skilled dietitian to provide clinical nutrition expertise across inpatient and outpatient settings at the Sudbury Outpatient Centre- ONA Paramedical. The role involves coordinating nutrition plans, educating patients, and supporting a multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics, CDO registration, and safety training, with experience in enteral/parenteral nutrition and telehealth via OTN.

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Ministry of Labour safety awareness training.

Salary Information

$39.17 - $50.76 / hour

KEY FUNCTION

Provide clinical nutrition expertise and support to patients referred that meet the service’s eligibility criteria.

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Diabetes, Bariatrics, Nutrition Counselling and Ophthalmology.

DUTIES
  • Assess patient’s complex nutrition needs and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary care plan.
  • Provide therapeutic nutritional instruction while coordinating multiple dietary restrictions.
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition needs including nutritional support.
  • Provide nutrition education in both individual and group settings.
  • Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  • Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
  • Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  • Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, from an accredited university.
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience working in both an inpatient and outpatient clinical setting within a health care environment.
  • Experience in enteral and parenteral nutrition required.
  • Experience in pediatric nutrition is preferred.
  • Experience with individual and group nutrition counselling is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to manage various nutrition issues, counsel patients on evidence-based nutrition principles and recommend dietary modifications appropriate for the patient’s skills, beliefs, lifestyle and health concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and provide nutrition services via Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN) equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
  • Successful Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
  • Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and patients.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in an inter-professional team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform with minimal supervision and prioritize duties.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
  • Ability to travel between local sites and willingness to travel occasionally within Northern Ontario.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle may be required.
