Job summary

NorWest Community Health Centres in Thunder Bay, Ontario, is hiring a Registered Dietitian for a 1 FTE position. You will join the Community Wellness Hubs Team to provide nutrition counselling, education, and community-based programs for underserved populations in a collaborative setting.

Responsibilities include individualized nutrition services, group programs, and advocacy to improve food access and health outcomes. HOOPP pension and benefits accompany a competitive salary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition with a Dietitians of Canada–accredited internship, 1–3 years in clinical or community care.
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario; Dietitians of Canada membership is an asset.
• Experience in community health, primary care, and chronic disease prevention in community settings.

Registered Dietitian

One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.

We are currently seeking 1 FTE Registered Dietitian to join our Community Wellness Hubs Team. As an integral member of NorWest Community Health Centres’ interdisciplinary team, providing clinical services to individuals who experience barriers to accessing healthcare. This includes people who are underhoused, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, experiencing current or past substance use, managing complex health conditions, identifying as 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers to Canada, and individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.

The Registered Dietitian supports integrated, team-based primary care by focusing on preventing or managing diet-related chronic diseases through individualized nutrition counselling, group education programs, and community-based initiatives. Services are delivered in a culturally safe, client-centred manner that respects diverse traditions, values, and lived experiences. The Dietitian collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, contributes to advocacy and community engagement efforts, and supports program development and evaluation to improve food access, nutrition literacy, and health outcomes, particularly among underserved and vulnerable populations.

The position has a competitive salary, the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) and an excellent group health benefit package.

The salary range for this position is $72,039 to $83,187 annually. Compensation will commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition and completion of a Dietitians of Canada–accredited dietetic internship program, with a minimum of 1–3 years of relevant clinical or community healthcare experience.
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. Membership with Dietitians of Canada is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated experience in community health, primary care, chronic disease prevention and management, and the planning and delivery of programs in community-based care settings.
• Experience working with Black, Indigenous, newcomer, uninsured, and other underserved youth, families, and equity-deserving populations, applying community outreach, health promotion, harm reduction, and culturally safe practices to support improved health outcomes.
• Strong understanding of the social determinants of health and systemic barriers affecting nutrition, wellness, and access to health services.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a collaborative, interprofessional team environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, organizational, and group facilitation skills.
• Experience delivering nutrition education, counselling, virtual care, and tele-nutrition services is an asset.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license
