Job summary

Region of Peel is seeking a Dietary Aide for Sheridan Villa Long Term Care in Mississauga. This regular part-time role involves on-site work with various shifts and alternate weekends/holidays. Candidates should have a Food Service Worker Certificate and a valid Food Safety Certification.

You will prepare meals, maintain clean dining areas, assist residents, and support the team in delivering person-centered care according to the Butterfly Philosophy of Care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Must have a Food Service Worker Certificate (college or private college program).
• Must hold a valid Food Safety Certification (Food Handlers Training) or be willing to complete within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food and beverages according to the production schedule and posted menu.
• Maintain clean and orderly kitchen, dining rooms, and serveries and clean equipment.
• Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils.
• Portion and serve meals and prepare trays for distribution.
• Assist residents in the dining room and support a positive dining experience.

Dietary Aide – Sheridan Villa Health Services – Long Term Care

Regular Part Time opportunities

(2) No Guarantee of Hours - Shifts: 6:00AM-2:00PM, 6:30AM-2:30PM,10:30AM 6:30PM, 3:15PM - 7:15PM, including alternate weekends and holidays

The Long Term Care Division requires staff to provide person-centered care to our residents and families following the Butterfly Philosophy of Care. This will ensure high levels of emotional wellbeing and a better quality of life for those living in our homes. Staff are to have emotional intelligence ability to deliver person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the resident and their family.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work a variety shifts along with every other weekend and holidays.

What you will do in this role:

• Prepare food and beverages as per food production schedule and posted menu. May cook simple dishes (including breakfast), pan, tend and remove items from the stove, microwave, retherm cart etc
• Maintain the kitchen, dining rooms and serveries in a clean and orderly manner which includes cleaning assigned areas on a daily and weekly basis, in addition to the cleaning of equipment
• Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils
• Portion and serve meals in the dining rooms and prepare trays for distribution to other areas according to the Dietary Census
• Provide assistance to the residents in the dining room as necessary
• Work with the team to enhance the quality of life for residentsand promote a pleasurable dining experience
• May set up dining room tables just prior to next meal and complete clean-up and warewashing duties after meals
• Assist with dining room decorations for special and seasonal theme days
• May update dietary records as required
• Obtain food and supplies and assist in the receiving, distributing, checking and storing of supplies
• Set up and deliver menu items and equipment to designated areas
• Accept and follow through on directions from the Cook in the performance of job duties in the absence of the Dietary Services Supervisor
• Maintain good relationships with the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
• Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by the Dietary Services Supervisor
• Assist in the orientation of new dietary staff
• Participate in relevant aspects of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to evaluate and improve client services
• Participate in committees as required
• Report health and safety hazards, actively participate in eliminating causes of accidents, and perform emergency occupational health and safety measures as required (WHIMS, Infection Control, Fire)
• Follow policies and procedures as outlined in the Centre’s manuals

What the Role Requires:

• High School diploma
• Certification under the Food Service Worker Certificate program at a college of applied arts and technology or a Food Service Worker Program provided by a private career college.
• Must have a valid Food Safety Certification course (Food Handlers Training) or be willing to complete the Food Safety Certification program within 30 days within hire. Please note, training time and course fees will not be covered by Peel Region.
• Food Service Worker Certificate as approved by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s program standards
• Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
