Job summary

Peel Region is hiring a Dietary Aide for Peel Manor LTC in Brampton. This part-time role requires providing resident-centered dining services in a long-term care setting, following safety standards and dietary records. Certification in Food Service and Food Safety is required or to be completed within 30 days of hire.

Shifts include evenings 28 hours bi-weekly with holidays and weekends as needed. Onsite at Peel Manor LTC, 525 Main St N, Brampton.

Qualifications

  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate with residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.

  • Experience in a food service setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food and beverages per production schedule and menu.
  • Maintain kitchen, dining rooms and serveries clean and orderly.
  • Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils.
  • Portion and serve meals and prepare trays for distribution.
  • Assist residents in dining and support a pleasurable dining experience.
  • Support dining room decorations and complete warewashing duties.

Shifts: 28 hours bi weekly; 3:30pm-7:30pm

Compensation: $27.52 -$29.20 per hour (as per CUPE collective agreement)

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Peel Manor LTC 525 Main St N, Brampton ON L6X 1N9

The Long Term Care Division requires staff to provide person-centered care to our residents and families following the Butterfly Philosophy of Care. This will ensure high levels of emotional wellbeing and a better quality of life for those living in our homes. Staff are to have emotional intelligence ability to deliver person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the resident and their family.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work a variety shifts along with every other weekend and holidays.

What You Will Do In This Role
  • Prepare food and beverages as per food production schedule and posted menu. May cook simple dishes (including breakfast), pan, tend and remove items from the stove, microwave, retherm cart etc
  • Maintain the kitchen, dining rooms and serveries in a clean and orderly manner which includes cleaning assigned areas on a daily and weekly basis, in addition to the cleaning of equipment
  • Wash, scour and sanitize pots, pans and utensils
  • Portion and serve meals in the dining rooms and prepare trays for distribution to other areas according to the Dietary Census
  • Provide assistance to the residents in the dining room as necessary
  • Work with the team to enhance the quality of life for residents and promote a pleasurable dining experience
  • May set up dining room tables just prior to next meal and complete clean-up and warewashing duties after meals
  • Assist with dining room decorations for special and seasonal theme days
  • May update dietary records as required
  • Obtain food and supplies and assist in the receiving, distributing, checking and storing of supplies
  • Set up and deliver menu items and equipment to designated areas
  • Accept and follow through on directions from the Cook in the performance of job duties in the absence of the Dietary Services Supervisor
  • Maintain good relationships with the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors
  • Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by the Dietary Services Supervisor
  • Assist in the orientation of new dietary staff
  • Participate in relevant aspects of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to evaluate and improve client services
  • Participate in committees as required
  • Report health and safety hazards, actively participate in eliminating causes of accidents, and perform emergency occupational health and safety measures as required (WHIMS, Infection Control, Fire)
  • Follow policies and procedures as outlined in the Centre’s manuals
What The Role Requires
  • High School diploma is required
  • Certification under the Food Service Worker Certificate program at a college of applied arts and technology or a Food Service Worker Program provided by a private career college.
  • Must have a valid Food Safety Certification course (Food Handlers Training), or must be willing to complete the Food Safety Certification program within 30 days within hire.
  • Food service experience in an institutional setting is preferred.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be able to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Must have a strong desire to work in a food service setting and ability to relate to older adults.
  • Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
