Job summary

Responsive Group Inc. in Windsor, Ontario, seeks a Dietary Aide/Porter to support residents during meals and care activities.

You will assist with meal service, adhere to care plans, and help maintain a safe, clean dining environment for residents and their families. The role requires reading and following diet orders, flexibility to cover shifts, and collaboration with the Food Services team to deliver high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Food Handler Certification by Public Health or a certified agency.
  • Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments.
  • Able to work flexible hours, such as emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings.
  • Receives verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status.
  • Ensures open communication between staff and other team members.
  • Encourage participation in the Home’s committees/teams.
  • Reports observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor relating to resident care and others (food preferences, likes & dislikes, intake).
  • Mentoring new staff and students.
  • Support and promote a team approach.
  • Ongoing delivery of customer service with staff, residents, families, and the public.
  • Ensuring optimal quality of life for each resident by the delivery of individualized resident care.
  • Follow therapeutic interventions according to resident’s plan of care.
  • Contributing to the overall pleasurable dining experience of our residents during mealtimes.
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure removal from unit.
  • Completion of documentation record of every shift (food temperature, freezer, fridge, sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit, cleaning checklists etc.).
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention and Control and Safe Food Handling procedures.
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported. To participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory for work areas and communicate needs to the Cook or Food Services Supervisor/Food Services Manager.
  • Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Complete all required annual education.
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated Job Task Inventory

  • Be knowledgeable of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health and Home’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To show evidence of being person centered and customer focused when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or a chest X-ray (within the last 1 year),
  • Two supervisory references required
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer
