Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health in Canada is seeking a Dietary Aide to support Nutrition Services with meal assembly, portion control, and principle sanitation practices. You will assist in menu adherence, food preparation, and timely service across tray, dining, or cafeteria settings.

Roles include cashier duties, inventory handling, and contributing to a clean, safe kitchen environment while respecting confidentiality and diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or willing to obtain within six (6) months.
• Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
• Demonstrated dexterity, speed, and efficient work methods.
• Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures.
• Ability to display independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Assists in training and orientation of Nutrition Services staff and students.
• Familiar with all diets, reference materials, and technical terms used in Nutrition Services.
• Adheres to approved menu and therapeutic guidelines for preparation and serving of diets.
• Makes changes to client menus in consultation with supervisors or dietitians.
• Assists with food preparation (toast, cereal, nourishments, salads, sandwiches, desserts, beverages).
• Assembles/serves meals to clients following portion standards.
• Delivers food carts/trays and collects soiled trays/dishes.
• Sets and sanitizes dining room tables; maintains sanitation standards.
• Prepares and delivers items for catered functions.
• Performs cashier function.
• Washes dishes and maintains sanitation of related areas.
• Maintains labeling, dating and storage of leftovers; handles hazardous samples.
• Checks, orders, receives, and monitors supplies; maintains par stock.
• Assists with inventory procedures and quality audits.
