Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health seeks a Dietary Aide to assist in Nutrition Services, supporting meal assembly, production, and distribution with strict adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

You will help ensure meals meet therapeutic specs, maintain clean preparation and service areas, and operate cash procedures when needed. The role emphasizes portion control, waste management, and independent, reliable work habits in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 10 Manitoba Standards or equivalent.
• Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or willingness to obtain within six months.
• Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated dexterity, speed, and efficient work methods.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Flexibility to adapt techniques and procedures.
• Ability to display independent judgment.
• Respect for and promotion of culturally diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training and orientation of Nutrition Services staff and students.
• Familiarity with all diets, reference materials, and nutrition terms.
• Follow approved menus and therapeutic guidelines for diet preparation and serving.
• Make changes to client menus in consultation with supervisor or RD.
• Assist with food preparation (toast, cereals, salads, etc.).
• Assemble/serve meals per portion standards and guidelines.
• Deliver food carts/trays and collect used dishes.
• Set, clear, and sanitize dining room tables.
• Prepare and deliver items for catered functions.
• Perform cashier duties and related cash procedures.
• Wash dishes and sanitize Nutrition Services areas and equipment.
• Maintain sanitary conditions and follow cleaning schedules.
• Ensure equipment cleanliness and efficiency.
• Label, date, and store or discard leftovers appropriately.
• Check, order, receive, monitor, and unpack supplies.
• Maintain par stock levels and assist with inventory.
• Support departmental quality control audits and sundry duties.
