Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Dietary Aide to join the DePaul Hall team. The role focuses on preparing and presenting meals, ensuring correct temperatures and portions, and delivering meals with care to residents.

Strong emphasis on food safety, teamwork, and compassion for seniors. Kitchen experience helps; bilingualism, First Aid/CPR, and flexible availability are assets. Comprehensive benefits and training opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or GED required.
• Proof of Food Safety Certification required.
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check where applicable.
• Experience in a kitchen setting is an asset.
• Experience working with seniors in long-term care or senior living is an asset.
• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
• First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Ensure food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet department standards.
• Follow production sheets and assist with cost control.
• Accommodate residents' dietary restrictions, allergies and special requests.
• Stay updated on menus and resident needs.
• Assist with deliveries and inventory control, labeling and rotation of supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Servery and dining area.
• Report equipment issues and participate in incident reporting as required.
• Maintain sanitation in dishwasher areas and kitchen equipment.

About The Opportunity

• Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely
• Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control
• Stays up to date with the specific needs of each resident e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations.
• Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
• Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each client e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations
• Assists with the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control. Ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly
• Makes sure that the Servery and dining room appearance meets set standards for cleanliness, organization and set up prior to meal service.
• Processes pots, pans, and dishware and maintains sanitation dishwasher and dish sink according to established and required cleaning guidelines.
• Immediately reports any equipment temperature issues to manager and takes corrective action as necessary.
• Participates in the client and employee incident reporting and investigation process as required
• Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance department
• Ensures kitchen appearance meets established standards for cleanliness and organization

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A high-school diploma or GED
• Proof of Food Safety Certification required
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
• Experience in a kitchen setting is considered an asset.
• Previous experience in working with the elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment considered an asset
• Bilingualism in English and French considered an asset
• First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset
• Ability to work flexible hours and shifts (including weekends and holidays)
• Strong customer service skills and a passion for serving seniors
• Experience in the culinary field and are familiar with preparing plates for clients
• A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
