Job summary

Shannex Incorporated is seeking a Temporary Full-time Dining Room Server in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. You will deliver meals to residents, maintain dining room standards, and support a warm, attentive dining experience while following safety and dietary guidelines.

Ideal candidates have a high-school diploma, valid Food Safety and Smart Serve certifications, and at least one year of service or customer-facing experience. Clear background checks may be required.

Qualifications

• Requires basic food safety certification and Right to Serve/Smart Serve certification.
• At least one year of experience serving food or in customer service.
• Successful candidates will need a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure food quality, presentation, and service meet department standards.
• Provide meals to residents and guests according to guidelines and diets.
• Keep dining room tidy and tables properly set, assist with serving and clearing.
• Assist with dishwashing and ware washing as required.
• Contribute to a collaborative team in the Food and Beverage department.

About The Opportunity

• Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are visually appealing, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is warm, attentive and timely
• Prepare and provide meal service to residents and guests according to established standards, procedures and guidelines and respecting the resident's right to individualized services and observing special diet restrictions, resident preferences and outlined departmental procedures
• Ensure dining room appearance meets established standards including table linens pressed and in place, tables set with appropriate place settings for meals, wait stations tidy and containing appropriate supplies
• Clear tables, load and safely operate dishwasher. Complete manual ware washing as required
• Contribute to the team environment as a member of the Food and Beverage department, working towards departmental goals and priorities and providing ongoing feedback from residents and guests to the Food and Beverage Manager on meals and menu choices to be continually improving
• Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of respecting client’s rights, including respecting others, maintaining confidentiality, promoting independence, respecting privacy, respecting the right to refuse services and involvement
• Communicates with the supervisor if there is a noted change in the nutritional status of a resident (i.e. changes in appetite)
• Promote a safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely, and completing safety education

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A high-school diploma or equivalent education
• Proof of valid Basic Food Safety Certification required
• Proof of valid Right to Serve/Smart Serve Certification required
• At least one year of experience with serving food or demonstrated experience in customer service
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
• Previous experience working with the elderly in long-term care or a seniors independent living environment an asset.
• Proof of completed Alzheimer's Care Course an asset
• A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services, and care
