Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Bedford, Nova Scotia is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to maintain clean, safe, resident-focused environments across our community. You will thoroughly clean common areas and private spaces, while upholding high standards of infection control and customer service.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and safety, with tasks spanning laundry assistance, supply coordination, and documenting completed work.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Minimum of one year experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry.
• Customer-service oriented and able to work warmly with residents.
• Ability to communicate well with internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of infection control and prevention practices.
• Experience with cleaning equipment (auto scrubber, floor buffer, vacuum).
• Experience working with seniors or in a seniors’ living environment is an asset.
• Criminal record check required upon hire.
• Dementia: Understanding the Journey course is an asset.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly clean common areas including lobbies, hallways, and stairwells.
• Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, clean and sanitize kitchens and bathrooms.
• Collect refuse from residents' rooms and dispose of this refuse per procedures.
• Documents all completed job routine tasks.
• Completes audits and inspections as required.
• Completes resident’s personal laundry services as requested.
• Communicates supply needs to People Leader in a timely manner.
• Efficiently uses supplies and equipment to maintain service quality levels.
• Clean and restock housekeeping cart; notify Supervisor when supplies are low.
• Promote safety culture by identifying and reporting hazards and following safety practices.

About The Opportunity

• Thoroughly clean common areas including lobbies, hallways, and stairwells
• Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing kitchens and bathrooms.

• Documents all completed job routine tasks

• Communicates supply needs to People Leader in a timely manner
• Efficiently uses supplies and equipment to maintain service quality levels
• Clean and restock housekeeping cart; notify Supervisor when supplies are low
• Promote safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely and completing safety education.

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A High School diploma or equivalent education
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry
• A high level of initiative for and commitment to completing housekeeping assignments efficiently and in a warm, friendly, and customer-service-oriented manner.
• Ability to communicate well with internal and external customers to meet needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner
• Knowledge of infection control and prevention practices
• Ability to utilize auto scrubber, floor buffer, vacuum
• Previous experience working with seniors or in a seniors’ living environment considered an asset
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and can safely use chemical cleaning agents and equipment
• Ability to provide a clear criminal record check upon hire
• Completed Dementia: Understanding the Journey course considered an asset
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
