Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Halifax is seeking a Registered Dietitian to support nutrition services across two RLC communities. The role focuses on menu development, resident nutrition assessments, and education for staff and clients.

The position involves coordinating care for seniors, maintaining data, budgets, and ensuring adherence to therapeutic nutrition guidelines. Candidates must hold NS RD credentials and relevant certificates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is required.
  • Registered Dietitian in Nova Scotia.
  • Membership with professional association.
  • Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Current First Aid & CPR and valid Food Handlers’ Certificate is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, prior to appointment.
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of menus in accordance with therapeutic nutrition guidelines.
  • Assesses resident’s nutritional status on admission and at least semi-annually; reviews monthly weights and follows up as required.
  • Addresses client’s individual dietary concerns.
  • Establishes and maintains personal nutritional needs of each client.
  • Completes texture modification assessments on referral.
  • Oversees and plans special nutrition needs for special diets, allergies and disease conditions.
  • Presents staff and client education sessions on nutrition and other related topics based on indicators and identified needs.
  • Communicates client nutrition care plans to clients/family/staff as appropriate.
  • Collects and enters appropriate data into database.
  • Documents clinical nutrition indicators monthly.
  • Administers the operating budget for dietary services, overseeing the preparation of purchase orders, verification and approval of invoices for payment.
  • Additional duties as assigned/required.

About The Opportunity

In this role you will share your expertise across both of our Halifax Downtown RLC communities, working between Parkland At The Gardens and Parkland At The Commons for a combined total of 28 hours bi-weekly or 3 days bi-weekly an ideal opportunity to build meaningful relationships with residents and teams at both sites.

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Registered Dietitian in Nova Scotia
  • Membership with professional association

  • Experience in a long-term care setting is considered an asset
  • Current First Aid & CPR and valid Food Handlers’ Certificate is required
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, prior to appointment.
