Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is seeking a dedicated Dietary Aide to join Glasgow Hall. You will ensure meals meet quality, temperature, and portion standards while following production sheets and accommodating residents’ dietary needs.

Qualifications

  • A high-school diploma or GED is required.
  • Proof of Food Safety Certification required.
  • Successful candidates may need a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Experience in a kitchen setting is an asset.
  • Experience with the elderly in long-term care or senior living is an asset.
  • Bilingual English/French is an asset.
  • First Aid and CPR certification are assets.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong customer service and passion for serving seniors.
  • Experience in the culinary field is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure food quality, presentation, and service meet department standards.
  • Follow production sheets to guide food preparation and control costs.
  • Accommodate residents' diet restrictions, allergies, and special requests.
  • Stay updated on menus and resident needs.
  • Assist with deliveries and inventory control; store, label, and rotate supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of servery and dining areas.
  • Handle pots, pans, dishware, and sanitation of sinks and dishwasher."
  • Report equipment issues and participate in safety and incident procedures.

About The Opportunity
  • Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely
  • Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control
  • Stays up to date with the specific needs of each resident e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations.
  • Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
  • Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each client e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations
  • Assists with the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control. Ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly
  • Makes sure that the Servery and dining room appearance meets set standards for cleanliness, organization and set up prior to meal service.
  • Processes pots, pans, and dishware and maintains sanitation of dishwasher and dish sinks according to established and required cleaning guidelines.
  • Immediately reports any equipment temperature issues to manager and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Participates in the client and employee incident reporting and investigation process as required
  • Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance department
  • Ensures kitchen appearance meets established standards for cleanliness and organization
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You
  • A high-school diploma or GED
  • Proof of Food Safety Certification required
