Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Lyndhurst Centre, is hiring a part-time Food Service Worker in Nutrition Services. The position is temporary for up to 6 months, with up to 24 hours bi-weekly, wage range $27.22-$27.60 per hour, start rate non-negotiable.

Shifts include weekdays and alternating weekends. Responsibilities include assembling meals on the cold beltline, stocking and setting up items, cleaning workstations, cold food production and portioning

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent education is required.
• Good manual dexterity and organizational skills.
• Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 10 kg and handle loading/unloading tasks.
• Must meet physical demands and work rotating shifts.
• Experience in food service or related role preferred.
• Ability to read short notes and memos.

Responsibilities

• Assemble meals on the cold beltline per meal ticket.
• Retrieve, stock and set up food items at workstations.
• Disassemble and clean workstation and beltline area.
• Cold food production and portioning prepared foods.

Site: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Lyndhurst Centre

Department: Nutrition Services

Reports to: TRI Nutrition Services Supervisor

Hours: Up to 24 Hours/Bi-Weekly

Wage Range: $27.22 - $27.60 per hour. Start rate non-negotiable.

Shifts: Weekdays and Alternating Weekends (06:30-10:30, 07:00-15:00, 11:30-19:30, 15:30-19:30)

Status: Temporary Part-Time (up to 6 months)

Closing Date: September 24, 2026

Duties

• Assembling meals on the cold assembly beltline, as per meal ticket request
• Retrieving, stocking, and setting up food items and supplies at work stations
• Disassembling, cleaning, and maintaining workstation and beltline area
• Cold food production
• Portioning prepared foods.

Qualifications

• New hires must have grade 12 or equivalent education
• Good manual dexterity and organizational skills
• Good team player
• 6 months practical and related experience
• Food Service Worker Certificate preferred
• Food Handlers Certificate preferred
• Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift to 10 kg, loading, and unloading food trucks; pushing heavy food trucks during pick up and delivery of meals
• Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
• Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
• Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
• Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
• Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
• Required to be available to work alternating weekends and statutory holidays and at least 3-week days in a two-week period
• Work in Warm/Humid Conditions
• May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
