Job summary

Manitoulin Centennial Manor is seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to assist in preparing and serving meals to residents in accordance with individual diets and preferences. You will read recipes, follow safety guidelines, and support cooks with food prep and dishwashing.

Qualifications

• Complete a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long‑Term Care Homes Act requirements.
• Must complete the program within three years of hiring if enrolled.
• Dietary experience in a long‑term care home is preferred (0–1 year).
• Able to stand for long periods and lift moderate to heavy loads.
• Able to read, write and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Must work safely following established safety practices and procedures.
• Available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Observes time limits for meal serving.
• Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Assists cooks to clean and prepare uncooked food such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
• Follows basic instructions in preparing simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Clears plates and trays, loads and operates the dishwasher.
• Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils according to procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assembles nourishment carts.
• Stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings as assigned.
• Attends in‑service education programs.
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.
• Prepares food in accordance with Dietary Department standards, reads recipes, works independently, and applies critical thinking.

Qualifications

• Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program that meets the requirements of the Ontario Long‑Term Care Homes Act.
• If enrolled, must complete the program within three (3) years of hiring.
• Previous dietary experience preferred in a long‑term care home, 0–1 year(s).
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to read, write, and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
• Successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Compensation

$23.22 – $25.28 per hour (part‑time).
