Job summary

A health care provider in the Durham Region is seeking a Dietary Aide to assist with the preparation and serving of meals. Responsibilities include ensuring food safety, participating in meal presentation, and maintaining cleanliness of serving areas. Candidates should have a Food Service Worker Program completion and preferably have experience in long-term care. The ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting is required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program.
  • Previous dietary experience in an LTC home is preferred (0-1 year).
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.

Overview

As a valued member of our culinary team you will assist with plating and serving of meals, and will be responsible for cleaning serving areas, as well as equipment, while following established policies, procedures and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Follow established policies, procedures, work systems, and cleaning procedures to meet regulatory requirements
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with health and food guidelines
  • Use all dietary equipment with competence
  • Participate in meal presentation
  • Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team
  • Assist in planning and organizing food preparation to ensure all meals and snacks are served on time, at an appropriate temperature, texture, and quantity
  • Clean, care for, and store equipment properly in designated areas after each use
  • Report any required repair work or deficiencies in the environment
  • Deliver and serve meals according to residents\' assessed needs
  • Assist with dining room clean-up
  • Assist in preparing the food and the environment for all special events
  • Participate on various facility and department committees as required
  • Use CQI/Risk Management processes to evaluate and ensure follow-up
  • Actively participate in ongoing educational opportunities
  • Promote wellness as a concept of living
  • Contribute to the formulation and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Work cooperatively with volunteers and student placements to enhance the scope of the department
  • Use supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently
  • Provide input on menu planning and changes based on resident preferences
  • Protect health and safety by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending relevant safety in-services
  • Follow all roles and responsibilities for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Be competent in the safe use of chemicals (WHMIS guidelines)
Qualifications
  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act
  • Previous dietary experience in an LTC home is preferred (0-1 year)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to read and write English and to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting
