Job summary

THUNDER BAY REGIONAL HEALTH SCIENCES CENTRE is seeking a Dialysis Aide to support hemodialysis patients by preparing and organizing machines and supplies for treatments. The role involves working within the Renal unit and collaborating with nursing staff to ensure smooth patient care.

The position requires a Grade 12, comfort with computerized equipment, and strong English communication and literacy to read protocols and document care.

Qualifications

• Completion of Secondary School (Grade 12).
• Experience in health care environment interacting with patients, families and health care professionals.
• Technical aptitude, comfortable working with computerized equipment.
• Able to work independently and handle workload with interruptions and changing priorities.
• Must possess English language communication skills sufficient to understand instructions, relay messages and communicate with patients, families and health care team.
• Must possess English literacy to read procedures/instructions, patient identification and records and supply labels.
• Must be able to meet physical demands including lifting, pushing, pulling (min 5 kg), reaching, standing or walking most of the day.

Responsibilities

• Dialysis Aide provides support in care of hemodialysis patients by ensuring that dialysis machine and supplies are organized and safely set up for the individual patient's dialysis treatment within the hemodialysis unit or in Critical Care.
• Reports to the Manager of the Renal department and works with the nurses in the department as part of the multidisciplinary team.
