Job description

DevOps Release Manager will play a critical role in executing end-to-end delivery. As the owner of the code merging process and issue resolution, they will collaborate with stakeholders and act as a key liaison between teams to ensure issues are addressed effectively and efficiently. They will bring strong technical expertise as well as expert communication skills to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Merge, build, and deploy future release changes to the target environments and review the history of recent changes to the repo and environment.
  2. Coordinate and conduct code reviews, provide guidance on code development, and update and maintain the code base between release trains.
  3. Collaborate with technical resources on the team for key requirements and development timelines, ensuring work plans and schedules are aligned.
  4. Communicate test results, deploy QA changes, and ensure all required merge activities are complete for handover to release teams.
  5. Mentor and coach software developers to ensure technical excellence.
  6. Review and monitor the auto-merge pipeline.
  7. Monitor and record test results to ensure all retrofit and build activities are completed and smooth handover to release teams occurs.
  8. Maintain auto-merge pipeline scheduler and ensure QA environment is up and functional.
  9. Auto-merge changes as per guidelines and resolve merge conflicts.
  10. Conduct triage calls for issues in Dev and QA environments, inviting necessary teams as required.
  11. Deploy changes to Dev and QA environments during the code merge window.
  12. Communicate changes to the release branch for repo and QA environment to future release trains.
  13. Merge changes from release to future release branches.
  14. Report on project/backlog progress, status, overall health, and individual applications.
  15. Assess work plans, identify scheduling issues, and escalate as needed.
  16. Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and foster a culture of excellence within the team.

Qualifications:

  1. University degree or college diploma in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline.
  2. At least 7-10 years of experience in technology.
  3. Experience with microservices-based system architecture.
  4. Good understanding of Kubernetes and public cloud platforms (preferably AWS, GCP).
  5. Familiarity with tools like Argo CD, OpenSearch, AppDynamics, Data Dog.
  6. Experience with the insurance industry and Guidewire Suite is an asset.
  7. Ability to assume a lead role, provide technical consultation, team guidance, and follow-through on delivery.
  8. Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality results.
  9. Practical experience working in a cloud environment for developing and releasing front-end applications.
  10. Experience integrating multiple data sources and databases into one system.
  11. Understanding of fundamental design principles behind scalable applications.
  12. Proficient with code versioning tools such as Git/Bitbucket.
  13. Understanding of enterprise and web architecture and REST APIs.
  14. Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  15. Hands-on experience with GIT (manage repo branches, resolve merge conflicts), Bitbucket Pipeline.
  16. Skills in repo management, branching workflow, performing/undoing merges.
  17. Ability to identify environment changes and review logs.
  18. Strong understanding of designing code for performance and security.
  19. Knowledge of front-end technologies like HTML5 and CSS3.
  20. Basic understanding of DevOps pipeline design for front-end applications.
  21. Experience with defect tracking and test management tools.
  22. Familiarity with in-house applications, systems, and high-level E2E flows.
  23. Understanding of release, exceptions, and risk review processes.
  24. Ability to diagnose common merge issues and review logs.
  25. Capability to explore resolution options and perform impact assessments among dev teams to resolve merge issues.
