Qualifications

  • Senior-level DevOps, development, infrastructure, or application-support experience.
  • 10 years of demonstrated experience working with Java, databases, Git, Jenkins, Linux, Bash, APIs, web servers and containers.
  • Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes experience; able to install, configure and maintain environments.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, configure, support, and optimize web-based middleware and API environments.
  • Set up, administer, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and Docker-based deployments.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins jobs, and automated testing; coordinate releases.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable production services.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Programmer to support a provincial Web Digital Office responsible for delivering modern, accessible, and scalable digital services to citizens and businesses. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative technical environment supporting and enhancing the foundational platforms used to deliver public digital services. The role will focus on DevOps, web middleware, APIs, containerization, CI/CD, application infrastructure, performance, monitoring, and production support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor, maintain, configure, support, and optimize web-based middleware solutions to ensure the security, stability, performance, and scalability of web and API environments.
  • Support the integration of the existing API Framework with the MuleSoft Enterprise Integration Platform.
  • Work with development and infrastructure teams to enhance continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Review, maintain, and improve Jenkins-based CI pipelines and associated automated testing.
  • Build and coordinate software releases across multiple development project streams.
  • Manage and support multi-tier application deployment environments.
  • Set up, configure, administer, and maintain Kubernetes clusters.
  • Support Docker-based containerized applications and environments.
  • Research, evaluate, test, and apply software patches and upgrades.
  • Implement, configure, and utilize monitoring and observability technologies such as SolarWinds, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues affecting web services, applications, middleware, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Apply software installation, configuration, administration, patch management, and deployment best practices.
  • Participate throughout the Software Development Life Cycle for web application development, deployment, maintenance, and support.
  • Support and enhance foundational digital-service platforms including Drupal, API Framework components, Small Apps Generator, Alfresco, Kubernetes, Docker, and Payment Gateway technologies.
  • Collaborate with developers, infrastructure specialists, application teams, and other technical stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and deliver reliable production services.
  • Produce required technical documentation and follow established organizational methodologies, tools, standards, and processes.
  • Provide production support and participate in occasional evening or weekend work for software upgrades or operational support when required.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated senior-level DevOps, development, infrastructure, or application-support experience.
  • 10 years of demonstrated experience working with technologies and practices including:
    • Java
    • Relational databases such as MySQL
    • Git version control
    • Automation and CI servers such as Jenkins
    • Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu
    • Shell scripting, including Bash
    • API development and API gateways
    • Web servers such as Apache
    • Load balancers and reverse proxies such as Nginx
    • Load testing, load balancing, performance testing, and automated testing
    • Container technologies
  • Experience with software installation, configuration, and system administration.
  • Hands‑on experience with Docker.
  • Experience setting up, administering, and maintaining Kubernetes clusters.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues affecting web services and web applications.
  • Knowledge of software patch management and deployment best practices.
  • Experience participating in the full Software Development Life Cycle for web application development and support.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical issues, and manage priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within technical teams and project environments.
Assets

The following experience would be considered an asset:

  • Previous experience working with provincial government or other government/public-sector organizations.
  • Drupal Content Management System module development.
  • Advanced load testing, load balancing, performance testing, and automated testing.
  • Development of black-box solutions.
  • DNS services.
  • Transport Layer Security (TLS).
  • Experience supporting enterprise API and integration platforms.
  • Experience with MuleSoft.
  • Experience with monitoring technologies such as SolarWinds, Grafana, and Prometheus.
