Porter-Leath is seeking a Development Associate to support fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement under the direction of the Vice President of Development. The role advances the agency’s mission through successful fundraising, event support, and representation at community events.

The position requires an Associate’s degree in Marketing or Public Relations, fundraising experience, and strong public speaking skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Fundraising through new partnerships and relationships, and maintain existing donors.
  • Ensure deadlines are met to support timely operations for the Development Department.
  • Engage entry-level donors to ensure stewardship and ongoing giving.
  • Collaborate with the Engagement Specialist to solicit support from volunteer groups.
  • Assist with developing the annual stewardship campaign messaging, timing, and delivery.
  • Represent Porter-Leath to public audiences through effective communication with groups, resources, staff, management, and Board members.
  • Prospect and research new donors, including in-kind opportunities such as Toy Truck partners.
  • Pursue grant applications and fulfill reporting requirements.
  • Manage recurring donor acknowledgement process including frequency and account assignment.
  • Cultivate a donor network to grow the overall funds raised toward annual goals.
  • Contribute to team efforts by performing other duties as assigned.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Development, the Development Associate will assist with various departmental activities including but not limited to: advancing the agency’s mission through successful fundraising, event support, and representing the agency at community events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Fundraising through new partnerships and relationships, in addition to maintaining existing donors.
  2. Compliance with deadlines to ensure timely operations for the Development Department.
  3. Actively manage entry level donors to ensure stewardship and continued giving.
  4. Works with the Engagement Specialist to solicit support from volunteer groups.
  5. Work with Communications Director and VP to develop the annual stewardship campaign, including messaging, timing, and delivery method.
  6. Present Porter-Leath to public audiences through effective communication and interaction with groups, community resources, staff, management, and Board members.
  7. Conduct new donor prospecting and research, including in-kind opportunities, such as Toy Truck collection partners.
  8. Pursue assigned grant applications and fulfill reporting requirements.
  9. Manage recurring donor acknowledgement process, including frequency, avenue, and account assignment.
  10. Cultivate a network of donors from a baseline portfolio, growing the overall network and funds raised by an annual goal over time.
  11. Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Oral communication skills to communicate effectively and confidently to diverse groups of people.
  • Written communication skills to include knowledge of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Excellent handwriting skills.
  • Public speaking skills to effectively and confidently communicate with large and small groups.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Google Suite, database management, email, and Internet.
  • Organizational skills to determine workload priorities and complete a variety of tasks comprising a heavy workload in a timely manner.
  • Skill to evaluate given information, research additional information needed and evaluate and compile the information.
  • Record keeping skills to maintain accurate, up-to-date files so that information is readily researched and retrieved.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity.
  • Ability to work as a team player to interact and assist all employees as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while also being attentive to details at all times.
  • Ability to scout data sources and draw proper conclusions to filter results.
Physical Demands

Performs essential job functions in established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerance. Regularly required to stand, walk, touch, handle objects with hands, feel, reach, see, hear and speak, and sit. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision in print and electronic form. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This is a non-smoking workplace/smoke free environment.

Special Conditions

Maintains an operable vehicle with valid registration, valid driver’s license, and good driving record with an appropriate level of insurance. Ability to travel from administrative headquarters to all sites and fundraising events on a regular basis, including nights and weekends.
