Job summary

Strathcona County is seeking an on-site Detention Guard for the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment. You will play a front-line role in safety, security, and detainee care, ensuring activities align with RCMP policies and procedures.

The position is offered as up to two hourly roles with variable hours based on operational needs, including zero to forty hours per week with an average around 12. Key duties include processing prisoners on arrival, monitoring welfare, maintaining cell cleanliness,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
• Familiarity with PROS; PROS access or the ability to quickly learn the system is considered an asset.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient with computers in a networked environment.

Responsibilities

• Process prisoners upon arrival, including taking photographs, documenting personal effects, completing prisoner booking documentation, and preparing and serving meals
• Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all prisoners at all times in accordance with RCMP policies and procedures
• Maintain cleanliness of holding cell facilities, equipment, and supplies
• Create and maintain property files, ensuring proper storage and disposal in accordance with RCMP policies and procedures
• Testify in court regarding prisoner management when required
