Job summary

Strathcona County in Alberta is hiring guards to operate from the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment, performing front-line custody duties, photographing prisoners, documenting effects, and serving meals per RCMP rules.

Role demands attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work shift patterns ranging from 0 to 40 hours weekly, averaging around 12 hours. A high school diploma and First Aid/CPR certify readiness; physical stamina required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with PROS or ability to learn quickly.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient with computers in a networked environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process prisoners on arrival, photograph, document personal effects, book them, and prepare meals.
  • Monitor safety and well-being of prisoners in line with RCMP policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of holding cells, equipment, and supplies.
  • Create and maintain property files; ensure proper disposal per RCMP procedures.
  • Testify in court regarding prisoner management when required.

Job description

Operating from the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment, the Guard plays a critical front-line role inmaintainingthe safety, security, and care of detainees while in custody. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively in a dynamic, high-responsibility environment, ensuring all activities align with RCMP policies and procedures.

This posting is for up to 2 hourly positions

Hours for this position will vary based on operational needs, ranging from 0 to 40 hours per week, with an average of 12 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process prisoners upon arrival, including taking photographs, documenting personal effects, completing prisoner booking documentation, and preparing and serving meals
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all prisoners at all timesin accordance withRCMP policies and procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of holding cell facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • Create andmaintainfound property files, ensuring proper storage and disposalin accordance withRCMP policies and procedures
  • Testify in courtregardingprisoner management whenrequired
Qualificationsand Skills:
  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Familiarity with PROS; PROS access or the ability to quickly learn the system is considered an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient with computers in a networked environment
Conditions of Employment:
  • Ability to obtain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
  • Availability to work shift work
  • Ability toperform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
