Job summary

Commissionaires BC in Creston is hiring casual on-call detention guards to work at the RCMP detachment. Shifts include days, evenings and overnights with a pay rate of $22/hr. You must reside within a 60-minute drive of the detachment.

Detention Guards monitor safety of persons in custody under RCMP direction and perform related duties as required. A flexible, on-call schedule with training opportunities and uniforms is provided.

Qualifications

• Must be 19 years and older.
• Valid Basic First Aid Certificate or willingness to complete the course prior to hire.
• Able to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance (may take 4–6 months).
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English.
• Willingness to undergo detention guard training including WHMIS.

Responsibilities

• Observe prisoners frequently and via CCTV.
• Assist RCMP in prisoner searches.
• Organize meals and maintain prisoner activity logbook.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of cells and report damages.
• Ensure cellblock security and doors remain locked.
• Secure personal effects and monitor safety.
