Job summary

Alstom in Thunder Bay, Ontario, seeks a Professional Engineer to provide engineering design and testing expertise. You will ensure timely delivery of design documentation for product releases and liaise with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities include creating designs, guiding junior staff, and preparing comprehensive technical documentation. Occasional field checks and plant visits may be required; strong adherence to standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Engineer (PEO) in good standing.
  • Ability to prepare design documents and test procedures.
  • Experience with design release documentation and liaison with clients/vendors.

  • Prepare new designs or propose changes for lower-complexity systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and review work of engineers/designers.
  • Prepare technical documentation (BRA, TRD/BTD, TPP, TPR, ECR, ECO, PCR, Work Orders, Specifs).
  • Ensure component design standards are met and review test procedures/reports.
  • Provide production line and bid support, cost estimates, and field checks as needed.

Primary Function:

In a PEO recognized Engineering discipline, provide Engineering design and testing expertise. Responsible for timely delivery of design documentation related to the Engineering release of a product.

Working Procedure:

For lower complexity designs/systems, prepare new designs/systems and/or propose changes to existing designs/systems.
Train, give technical guidance to, and review work of engineers/designers of less standing.
Prepare technical documentation for designs/systems, including, but not limited to BRA, TRD/BTD, TPP, TPR, ECR, ECO, PCR, Work Orders and Specifs.
Ensure that all component design standards are met.
Prepare, revise and review internal test procedures/reports.
Perform support qualification and investigation tests.
Review and approve external test procedures/reports.
Liaise with others involved in the design process, including, but not limited to clients, vendors, other design groups, testing groups and design specialists.
Provide production line support.
Provide bid support.
Provide cost estimates/support.
Conduct field checks to study existing equipment.
May be required to visit other plants and installations.
Perform other related duties.

Supervision Received:

Duties are assigned with written or oral instructions, as to the methods and procedures to be followed.
Receives specific project and technical guidelines, working within defined standards and specifications.
Technical guidance is available from a more senior Design Engineer or Project Engineer.
Work is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy and conformance with prescribed procedures by a more senior Design Engineer or Project Engineer

Qualifications:

Certified as a Professional Engineer by P.E.O.

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $38.68 CAD per hour, plus pension & benefits.
