Job summary

ARC’TERYX in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a Design Developer 1 to support product design through patterning, sewing prototypes, and documentation for scalable production. You’ll collaborate with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers to explore new concepts and techniques that align with Arc’teryx design philosophy.

The role requires 1+ years in a technical design setting, a Fashion Design credential, and proficiency with Gerber CAD, Illustrator, and MS Office.

Qualifications

• 1+ years’ experience working in a technical design environment (ideally apparel).
• Diploma or degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience.
• Previous pattern making experience, particularly CAD experience with Gerber.
• Strong sewing, building, and pattern making skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator, with the ability to pick up new computer applications quickly.

Responsibilities

• Support Product Design by developing unique and resolved solutions through patterning and sewing concept prototypes, ensuring alignment with Arc’teryx design philosophies, the original intent and vision for the product
• Support and/or contribute to Design by sewing resolved garments, along with the supporting documentation to ensure scalable construction in a bulk production environment
• In collaboration with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers, you support and/or contribute to creation, documentation and communication of new concepts, construction processes and techniques that meet Arc’teryx product ideals
• You contribute to and/or build partial or complete concept prototypes to allow solutions to be tested, reviewed, and validated
• You support Design in collaboration with Pattern Makers and Product Developers on seasonal projects as needed
• You test different materials to assess suitability for various construction techniques and end uses, documenting information and results throughout the process
• You support Design Developers and Senior Design Developers with special projects as needed
• You support and/or assist the Sample and Design teams and respond to problems as they arise
• You are responsible to compile project scope, activities, and expenditures, of projects deemed eligible for submission to funding programs (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS, and so forth)

The Women’s Hike design team works together on a wide variety of product types covering knitwear, insulated midlayers, gore hardshells, softshell and windshell garments to support the Hike category. Are you our next Design Developer 1?

• You have 1+ years’ experience working in a technical design environment (ideally apparel)
• You have a diploma or degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience
• You have previous pattern making experience, particularly CAD experience with Gerber
• You have strong sewing, building, and pattern making skills
• You are proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator, with the ability to pick up new computer applications quickly

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is CAD$71,000 - CAD$93,000
