Job summary

• Diploma or degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience.
• Pattern making experience, CAD with Gerber.
• Strong sewing, building, and pattern making skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator; quick to learn new apps.
• Proactive in identifying root causes and solving issues with integrity.
• Flexible, adaptable to ambiguity and able to balance autonomy with teamwork.
• Passion for outdoor gear and Arc’teryx products; willingness to live the brand.
• Knowledge of Arc’teryx products and involvement in activities the brand makes for.

Responsibilities

• Support Product Design by developing unique solutions through patterning and prototypes.
• Assist sewing of garments and create documentation for scalable bulk production.
• Collaborate with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers on new concepts and processes.
• Build partial or full concept prototypes for testing and validation.
• Support seasonal projects with Pattern Makers and Product Developers.
• Test materials for construction techniques and document results.
• Assist Sample and Design teams and address problems as they arise.
• Compile project scope, activities, and expenditures for funding submissions (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS).

The Women’s Hike design team works together on a wide variety of product types covering knitwear, insulated midlayers, gore hardshells, softshell and windshell garments to support the Hike category. If you were in the Design Developer 1 role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

• You support Product Design by developing unique and resolved solutions through patterning and sewing concept prototypes, ensuring alignment with Arc’teryx design philosophies, the original intent and vision for the product
• You support and/or contribute to Design by sewing resolved garments, along with the supporting documentation to ensure scalable construction in a bulk production environment
• In collaboration with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers, you support and/or contribute to creation, documentation and communication of new concepts, construction processes and techniques that meet Arc’teryx product ideals
• You contribute to and/or build partial or complete concept prototypes to allow solutions to be tested, reviewed, and validated
• You support Design in collaboration with Pattern Makers and Product Developers on seasonal projects as needed
• You test different materials to assess suitability for various construction techniques and end uses, documenting information and results throughout the process
• You support Design Developers and Senior Design Developers with special projects as needed
• You support and/or assist the Sample and Design teams and respond to problems as they arise
• You are responsible to compile project scope, activities, and expenditures, of projects deemed eligible for submission to funding programs (SR&ED, IRAP, NRC, MITACS, and so forth)

Are you our next Design Developer 1?

• You have 1+ years’ experience working in a technical design environment (ideally apparel)
• You have a diploma or degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience
• You have previous pattern making experience, particularly CAD experience with Gerber
• You have strong sewing, building, and pattern making skills
• You are proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator, with the ability to pick up new computer applications quickly
• You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
• You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
• You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
• You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
• Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it

Compensation: The salary range for this role is CAD$71,000 - CAD$93,000
