Job summary

Arc’teryx is seeking a Design Developer 2 in North Vancouver to contribute to concept development from ideation through inline seasonal work for Snow product categories. You’ll pattern, sew, prototype and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate design intent into production-ready garments.

You have 4+ years in technical design, CAD experience with Gerber, and strong sewing and construction skills.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in a technical design environment.
  • Pattern making experience, CAD (Gerber).
  • Strong sewing, building, patterning and prototype making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to product design by developing unique and resolved solutions through patterning and concept prototyping.
  • Produce production level and resolved garments, with documentation for scalable construction.
  • Collaborate with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers to create, document and communicate new concepts, construction processes, techniques and manufacturing solutions.
  • Build partial or complete concept prototypes for testing, review and validation.
  • Collaborate with Pattern Makers and Product Developers on seasonal projects as required.
  • Influence and contribute to developing design standards across the line plan.
  • Test materials to assess construction techniques and document results.
  • Support creation of field and wear-test samples with Cutting team as required.
  • Assist Sample and Design teams in solving problems as they arise.
  • Support onboarding and training of new Design Developer hires.

Job description

As Design Developer 2, you build fully resolved solutions that are in alignment with the original design intent and vision of the product. You are a hands‑on innovator, keen to sew, pattern, and prototype in pursuit of smarter, more creative ways to innovate product. In close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, you support design and contribute to all stages of concept development, from early ideation through to seasonal inline focused on how we create for our Snow product categories.

Key Products You’ll Be Designing For:

Gore‑Tex shells, Gore‑Tex pants, down insulated pants, synthetic insulated shells, down insulated shells, synthetic insulated shells and mid‑layers

This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed on‑location.

If you were the Design Developer 2 now, here are some of the core activities you would be responsible for:
  • Contributing to product design by developing unique and resolved solutions through patterning and concept prototyping, ensuring alignment with Arc’teryx design philosophies, original intent and vision for the product
  • Producing production level and resolved garments, along with the supporting documentation to ensure scalable construction in a bulk production environment
  • Collaborating with Designers, Pattern Makers and Product Developers to create, document and communicate new concepts, construction processes, techniques and manufacturing solutions that meet Arc’teryx product ideals
  • Building partial or complete concept prototypes to allow solutions to be tested, reviewed, and validated
  • Collaborating with Pattern Makers and Product Developers on seasonal projects as required
  • Influencing and contributing to developing design standards and to ensure consistency across all styles within the line plan, including working with Pattern Making, Product Development and Fit & Pattern teams to validate and implement standards
  • Testing various materials to assess suitability for various construction techniques and end uses, providing recommendations on final selection as well as documenting information and results throughout the process
  • Supporting in the creation of field and wear‑test samples by providing direction and requests to the Cutting team as required
  • Assisting the Sample and Design teams in responding to problems as they arise
  • Supporting the onboarding and training of new Design Developer hires

Are you our next Design Developer 2?
  • You have a diploma or degree in Fashion Design, or the equivalent experience, with 4+ years’ experience working in a technical design environment
  • You have previous pattern making experience, particularly CAD experience with Gerber
  • You have strong sewing, building, patterning and prototype making skills
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator, able to pick up new computer applications quickly
  • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
  • You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
  • You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it
  • A strong knowledge of Arc’teryx products and interest/involvement in activities Arc’teryx makes products for
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is CAD$82,000 - CAD$108,000
