Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS)
FCC Canada, in a 50/50 joint venture with Webuild Civil Works Inc., will deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line. This includes design, construction, supply, and operation of three kilometres of twin tunnels underneath Pape Avenue between the Gerrard tunnel portal and the Don Valley bridge, two underground stations (Pape and Cosburn ), two tunnel portals, three emergency exit buildings and a rail switch/crossover in the section of tunnel near Sammon Avenue. The Pape Station connection will interface with Toronto Transit Commission Line 2 subway and related works.
Theproject uses a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) model, allowing greater collaboration between the project owner and contractor.

Position Summary
We are seeking a System Design Coordinator with hands-on experience in Tunnel Ventilation Control Systems (TVCS) and/or Fire Detection and Suppression Systems (FLS) to support the design, construction, and testing & commissioning phases of a major infrastructure project. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in systems engineering principles and strong coordination skills, with the potential to grow into a managerial role based on their experience and performance
Design Documentation Review
The System Design Coordinator's key responsibilities are
- Review, track, and update design submittals to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Ensure design documentation meets specified design criteria, performance requirements, and reliability analysis standards.
- Liaise with design consultants and internal stakeholders to resolve design issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of Works Submittals as it relates to tunnels (bored tunnels, SEM structures and underpinning at Pape Station).
Interface Management
- Coordinate the integration of Tunnel Ventilation Control Systems (TVCS) and Fire Life Safety Systems (FLS) with multiple stakeholders, including civil, electrical, and communication teams.
- Act as a primary interface with third-party organizations and support the PTUS team in obtaining necessary approvals and final permits from the Ontario Fire Marshal.
- Coordinating the interface with Contracting Authority, Governmental Authorities, and key stakeholders, including the City of Toronto and TTC.
- Maintain interface control documents and track dependencies impacting the systems scope.
Construction & Testing Support
- Participate actively in Fire/Life Safety Committees and ensure design intent is met during construction.
- Support construction and T&C teams by verifying the correct installation and integration of TVS and FLS components, including: Local control panels and Tunnel marshalling panels.
- Provide technical input during inspections, site walkthroughs, and system testing phases.
Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in system design coordination, preferably related to tunnel ventilation systems or fire safety systems in infrastructure or transit projects.
Job Requirements
- Experience with Systems Engineering Management processes.
- Experience with design of underpinning, pipe canopies, micro tunnelling or other works related to the underpinning at Pape Station.
- Proficient in software related to the construction industry (e.g., AutoCAD, Navisworks and Bluebeam, etc.).
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, lifecycle stages, and documentation processes.
- Experience with Canadian codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, CSA, Ontario Building Code) is considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.
