Job summary

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo seeks a Deputy Chief, Professional Services to oversee Fire Prevention, Fleet Services, and FireSmart within RES. You will lead strategic initiatives, manage budgets, and ensure regulatory compliance while mentoring staff and coordinating with municipal officials.

The role demands strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and a deep understanding of Indigenous communities and rural operations.

Qualifications

  • Ten years of experience in emergency services with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in rural and Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a public-sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight of Fire Prevention, Fleet Services, and FireSmart within the Regional Emergency Services (RES) Department.
  • Develop annual business plan and fiscally responsible annual budget for the branch.
  • Represent the department in facility and project management activities and ensure compliance with legislation and safety directives.
  • Mentor staff and supervise personnel to maintain high service levels and a constructive work environment.
