Job summary

Save-On-Foods Cumberland in Saskatoon, SK is seeking a Department Manager, Grocery to lead the department, coach the team, and ensure Always Customer First service. This full-time role is 40 hours per week and offers growth within Western Canada’s largest grocery retailer.

You will oversee operations, merchandising, safety, training, scheduling, and KPI review, with responsibilities including inventory, coaching, and achieving sales targets while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of retail experience.
• Food Safe Certification.
• Post-secondary education in a business-related field is an asset.
• Leadership experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Leading the department, coaching and mentoring a team while focusing on customer-first service.
• Overseeing operations, merchandising, health and safety, and reporting KPIs to management.
• Engaging staff through training, scheduling, performance management and recognition.
• Communicating goals and driving sales growth and customer loyalty.
• Managing inventory counts, end-of-period tasks and issue resolution as needed.

We are hiring a Department Manager, Grocery at our Cumberland Save-On-Foods location in Saskatoon, SK. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the successful applicant must have open availability.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the department, acting as a coach, mentor, and resource while fostering a positive team environment focused on Always Customer First service.
• Delivering operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
• Engaging and retaining team members through training, performance management, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
• Communicating key messages and business objectives to team members in the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Reviewing and analyzing financial reports, identifying opportunities to improve performance, and presenting KPIs to the management team.
• Analyzing business/HR metrics and dashboards of the department.
• Supporting with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
• Leading inventory counts/period end of the department and resolving issues as required.
• Performing all job duties throughout the department as needed, including lifting weight (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods of time, and working in hot/cold environments.

You have:

• 1-3 years of retail experience.
• Leadership experience is an asset.
• Food Safe Certification.
• A post-secondary education in a business related field is an asset.

Experience and/or knowledge with:

• Achieving sales targets and profitability.
• Executing merchandising plans and creating in-store displays to drive sales.
• Human Resources (e.g. training, development, coaching and mentoring).
• Workforce planning and scheduling considerations.
• Health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
