Job summary

Edge Marine & Disposal Services is seeking a deckhand for our barge fleet to work on waterside operations. The role involves handling ropes, securing to vessels, and offloading materials while in port aboard steel flat deck barges and oil barges.

Applicants should be comfortable with physical labor, have a valid driver’s license, and be capable of documenting work performed. Forklift experience is a valuable asset for this position.

Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable working in a marine environment.
  • Physically able to perform heavy lifting and manual tasks.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Forklift operation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Observe PPE & Safety Requirements of EDGE Marine/Bluewater Agencies/Halifax Port Authority.
  • Safe/timely loading/offloading of materials from our barge.
  • Organize & stage materials for disposal
  • Identify & record all hazmat & palletize by vessel
  • Work with Environmental Officers/Marine Engineers during offload
  • Be comfortable tying up alongside ships with heavy ropes/lines prior to beginning work.
  • Organizing & manifesting all waste/product offloaded by the vessel while in port.

DECK HAND
Summary

EDGE Marine is looking to fill the position of deckhand on our barge fleet. This position will have the candidate working on our waterside operations. The deckhand will be working on both a steel flat deck barge, equipped with forklift and/or oil barge. These barges are towed alongside vessels to receive waste/sludge while in port. This position will require the candidate to comfortably work with ropes/lines, securing to vessels, and operating on marine crafts for extended periods. The offloading of these barges will also be required once you depart the ship.

Responsibilities

Working Conditions

Must be comfortable working close to ships/docks. Must be able to safely navigate dockyards/marine terminals/high traffic areas.

Physical Requirements

Moderate lifting will be common.
