Environmental Services for Front Line Staff course

Job description

The Day Cleaner is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Centre’s clinical treatment areas, public reception, and public areas are kept clean and disinfected. They will maintain the placement of clinical treatment area furnishings and provide other cleaning assistance as required. The Day Cleaner promotes infection prevention through everyday work. This is a casual position covering the duties of the Day Cleaner during vacations and / or sick leave, approximately 30-40 days per year.

Specific Responsibilities :

Responsibilities include :

  • Performing cleaning duties as per the work schedule, including but not limited to :
  • Cleaning and disinfecting mats, equipment, toys, ball pits, Snoezelen, and other therapy equipment
  • Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas, surfaces, client reception areas, windows, and doors
  • Organizing furnishings and equipment in treatment and storage areas
  • Regular laundry of sheets, pillowcases, towels, and other items used in clinical areas
  • Maintaining clean and dry entrances and hallways
  • Tending to spills, incidents, and spot cleaning
  • Inspecting washrooms, spot cleaning, and replenishing supplies
  • Cleaning and organizing the kitchen, dishwasher, and fridge
  • Inspecting toys for safety; tagging or removing as required
  • Cleaning equipment and assistive devices where applicable
  • Cleaning environment surfaces such as walls, chairs, windows, and doors
  • Maintaining cleaning supplies
  • Providing other assistance as requested by the Director

Health and Safety :

The Day Cleaner will comply with duties assigned as per Section 28 of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.

Accountability and Freedom to Act :

The incumbent has discretion within practices and procedures outlined in policies, manuals, and supervisory review.

The Day Cleaner’s relationships affecting the Centre include :

  • Children and their parents
  • Staff at all levels

Performance Factors :

Performance will be assessed based on :

  • Cleanliness of areas and equipment
  • Preparation of treatment areas
  • Adherence to cleaning procedures and safety policies
  • Understanding of infection control standards
  • Courtesy and promptness in responding to requests
  • Time management

Education :

Successful completion of the Environmental Services for Front Line Staff course through the Ontario Healthcare Housekeeping Association within the first year of employment.

Knowledge and Skills :

Candidate should possess :

  • Ability to perform standard procedures and operate equipment easily
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
  • Experience in healthcare environment cleaning
  • Ability to work with children with special needs in a caring manner
  • Knowledge of cleaning and infection prevention standards
  • Strong customer service commitment
  • Familiarity with personal protective equipment
  • Attention to detail and understanding of the importance of cleanliness
  • Reliable transportation
  • Current criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Bilingual (French) is an asset
