Job summary

Humankind Global Recruitment is seeking a Database Reliability Engineer to manage MySQL and PostgreSQL lifecycles within a global IT operations team. You will provision, monitor, and tune databases, using Terraform, Ansible, and containerized deployments with Docker/Kubernetes.

The role emphasizes HA, performance optimization, automation, and collaboration with SREs, platform engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable database services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in IT operations, site reliability, or related engineering role.
• 2+ years in IT operations database administration.
• Solid SQL database knowledge with MySQL and PostgreSQL; replication and tuning experience preferred.
• Experience with replication, backups, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with high-availability approaches (Galera, Patroni, etc.).
• Strong Linux admin skills and shell proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of MySQL and PostgreSQL instances from provisioning to decommissioning.
• Use IaC tools to provision and manage clusters in containerized and non-containerized environments.
• Implement and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerts, and health checks.
• Profile resource usage, optimize queries, and adjust indexing and schema design.
• Plan capacity and sizing to prevent capacity-related incidents.
• Contribute to incident management, on-call rotations, and post-incident reviews.
• Support replication and failover configurations for high availability and DR.
• Develop automation scripts (Shell, Python) and tooling to reduce manual work.
• Prepare clear documentation covering architecture, runbooks and standards.
• Collaborate with SREs, platform engineers, and application teams to ensure reliable database services.

Our client a dynamic Information Technology services company that partners with leading global organizations to deliver innovative, high-quality IT solutions is looking for a Database Reliability Engineer.

They are looking for a motivated Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to join our expanding IT Operations team. The successful candidate will be part of a large global multi-international organization working with MySQL and PostgreSQL database platforms. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of MySQL and PostgreSQL instances.

Responsibilities

• Lifecycle Management : Own the full lifecycle of MySQL and PostgreSQL instances, including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, monitoring, performance tuning, and decommissioning.
• Provisioning & Deployment : Use Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet) to provision and manage MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters in a mixture of containerized (Docker/Kubernetes) and non-containerized environments.
• Monitoring & Observability : Implement and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerting, and health checks for database clusters to enable proactive incident detection and resolution.
• Performance Engineering : Profile server resource usage, analyze query and schema-level performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement indexing strategies, schema design, and configuration changes to optimize throughput and latency.
• Capacity Planning: Plan and model resource requirements based on usage trends, and recommend right-sizing or scaling actions to prevent capacity-related incidents.
• Incident & Change Management : Follow established change management processes, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to post-incident reviews to drive long-term reliability improvements.
• Replication & High Availability : Support replication and failover configurations across environments to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
• Automation : Develop and maintain automation scripts (Shell, Python) and tooling to reduce manual operational overhead and improve consistency.
• Documentation : Prepare clear, well-structured documentation covering database architecture, runbooks, procedures, and operational standards.
• Collaboration : Work closely with SREs, platform engineers, application teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver reliable database services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in IT operations, site reliability, or a related engineering role.
• 2+ years of experience in IT operations database administration.
• Solid understanding of SQL databases — hands‑on experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL is expected. Familiarity with replication, backup strategies, and performance tuning is preferred.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals, including replication, WAL, vacuuming, and query planning
• Working knowledge of MySQL, including replication, performance tuning, and backup strategies.
• Exposure to high‑availability solutions such as Galera cluster, InnoDB replicaset, Patroni or managed database offerings — familiarity with clustering concepts and failover mechanisms is expected.
• Strong Linux administration skills and comfort working in shell‑based environments.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Shell, Python, or Ruby).
• Familiarity with Docker and/or Kubernetes for containerized database deployments.
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
• Experience with Git and working in an open‑source version control workflow.
• Working knowledge of *nix system tuning (kernel parameters, filesystem, memory, CPU) is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills , the ability to work in a team, and a proactive problem‑solving mindset.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of database reliability best practices and industry standards.
• Ability to plan and model resource requirements from high‑level specifications.
• Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
