Explorance is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our Global CloudOps team in Montreal. This hands-on role focuses on managing PostgreSQL environments behind our SaaS applications, with responsibilities spanning performance optimization, high availability, automation, security, backup, and disaster recovery.

You will collaborate with CloudOps, development, and other technical teams to ensure databases are reliable, secure, and scalable as our applications grow.

Qualifications

• Professional experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, administration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability concepts.
• Experience with Patroni and streaming/logical replication.
• Experience with Linux environments and Bash scripting.
• Understanding of database security and access-management best practices.

Are you a PostgreSQL DBA who enjoys solving complex performance problems, improving database reliability, and working with systems that support SaaS applications used at scale?

Explorance is looking for a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our Global CloudOps team in Montreal.

In this hands-on role, you'll help manage and continuously improve the PostgreSQL environments behind our SaaS applications. You'll work on everything from performance optimization and high availability to automation, security, backup and recovery — collaborating closely with CloudOps, development, and other technical teams.

We're looking for someone with solid PostgreSQL experience who enjoys troubleshooting, takes ownership of problems, and wants to continue developing their expertise in database and cloud operations.

What you'll be working on

• Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases across development, testing, and production environments.
• Help ensure our databases remain highly available, reliable, secure, and performant.
• Participate in database upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Contribute to database architecture and design decisions as our applications and infrastructure evolve.

Performance & optimization

• Monitor database health and identify performance bottlenecks before they become problems.
• Investigate and optimize queries using PostgreSQL tools such as EXPLAIN and ANALYZE.
• Improve indexing, schemas, configurations, and deployment scripts to increase performance and reliability.
• Partner with development teams on database design and query optimization.

High availability, backup & recovery

• Support and improve PostgreSQL high-availability environments, including replication and automated failover technologies.
• Maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
• Regularly validate backups and recovery procedures to ensure we're prepared when it matters.

Automation & monitoring

• Automate repetitive DBA activities using Bash, PowerShell, or similar tools.
• Improve database monitoring and observability.
• Support capacity planning and resource utilization analysis.
• Continuously improve our operational processes and technical documentation.

Security & production support

• Manage database access, permissions, auditing, logging, and other security controls.
• Help maintain database security and support organizational security standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related production issues.
• Participate in scheduled maintenance and release activities when required.

What we're looking for

You don't need to check every box. If you have strong PostgreSQL experience and most of the following, we'd like to hear from you:

• Professional experience administering PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, administration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability concepts.
• Patroni, streaming replication, or logical replication
• Experience working with Linux environments and Bash/shell scripting.
• Understanding of database security and access-management best practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with developers and other technical teams.
• Comfortable taking ownership of work while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is welcome, but equivalent practical experience is equally valuable.
