Job Description

We are looking for an engineer to help manage, optimize, and migrate our databases across SQL Server and PostgreSQL. You’ll be hands‑on with backup pipelines, schema design, performance tuning, and migrations that support our trading and analytics applications.

Responsibilities

Database Operations

• Manage SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases for reliability and performance.
• Set up and monitor backup/restore pipelines (FULL/DIFF/LOG for SQL Server).
• Implement replication and failover strategies.

Optimization & Tuning

• Analyze queries and indexes to improve speed and reduce storage overhead.
• Redesign schemas (e.g., splitting large tables into domain-specific ones).
• Benchmark performance across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and alternative platforms.

Migration & Integration

• Plan and execute migrations from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
• Support new app integrations by provisioning schemas, roles, and permissions.
• Work with application teams to adapt queries and ORM usage.

Documentation & Runbooks

• Write procedures for backups, replication, and failover.
• Maintain data dictionaries and schema change logs.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills:

• SQL Server administration (backup/restore, indexing, replication).
• PostgreSQL administration (roles, schemas, query optimization).
• Query tuning and indexing strategies.
• Basic scripting for automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).

Nice-to-Have:

• Familiarity with Ceph/RBD storage for database volumes.
• Experience with high-availability setups (read replicas, clustering).
• Exposure to Kubernetes-hosted Postgres (StatefulSets, operators).

Eligible applicants must be:

• Graduated from electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, or a closely related program.
