Job summary

HRbrain Inc. is seeking a skilled Database Administrator for a contract role in Toronto, Canada. You will manage Oracle and SQL Server databases in an Azure-focused environment, implement security, and optimize performance.

You’ll lead incident responses, support DR/SCM activities, and work with external vendors. This position requires strong communication and collaboration in a fast-paced team setting.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of Azure cloud database experience focusing on MSSQL.
• 2+ years of PostgreSQL experience.
• Setup, installation and configuration of DB products.
• Strong tuning, monitoring and troubleshooting skills.
• Cloud migration experience.
• Backup, restore and recovery knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead production incident resolutions and root cause analysis.
• Communicate complex DB issues to stakeholders clearly.
• Ensure compliance with change control and database security policies.
• Analyse recurring incidents and drive service improvements.
• Provide on-call rotational support as required.
• Participate in BAU operations, changes, and DR/SCM activities.

Rate: $70.00 – $78.00 /hr Inc.

The Candidate will Be Working with: Solution Design, DB Engineering, Information Security teams and external vendors.

Daily Job Duties/Activities

• Taking ownership of and leading technical resolutions for production incidents
• Communicating clearly complex technical issues to stakeholders and Lines of Business partners
• Complying with CIBC standards for change control and overall database security policies
• Analysing recurring incidents and identifying service improvements where possible
• Providing on-call rotational/pager support where required
• Participating in Incidents and Changes as part of BAU Operational activities
• Participating in Scheduled Disaster Recovery or SCM activities
• Participating in post-mortems and RCAs (Root Cause Analysis) of critical incidents
• Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Optimize database performance, including indexing, query tuning, and resource management.
• Ensure database security by implementing best practices for user access control, encryption, and auditing.
• Implement native security features in Oracle (TDE, Data Redaction, Database Vault) and SQL Server (TDE, Always Encrypted).
• RAC, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
• Automate database monitoring and maintenance tasks.

Must Haves

• 5-7 years of experience in Azure Cloud database (Focus on MSSQL)
• Experience with PostgreSQL – 2+ years
• Setup/Installation and configuration of DB products
• Experience in Tuning, Query Optimization, Monitoring and Troubleshooting database issues
• Cloud migration experience
• Exhibit knowledge of DB backup restore and recovery
