Job Description

Are you an experienced Database Administrator looking to join a collaborative and supportive team that strives for operational excellence? Reporting to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, performance, and support of LCBO’s enterprise database platforms across production and non-production environments. In this role, you will support a broad and business-critical database landscape, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Db2, and other relational and non-relational technologies. You will help ensure database environments are stable, secure, recoverable, patched, and optimized to support critical business systems and transformation initiatives. If you are a hands-on database professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems, supporting high-availability environments, and contributing to modernization and operational excellence, this is the role for you.

About the Role
  • Administer and support production and non-production database environments across multiple technologies, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Db2, and other relational and non-relational platforms.
  • Perform routine database maintenance, patching, upgrades, feature packs, and lifecycle activities to keep database platforms current, secure, and supportable.
  • Monitor database availability, capacity, performance, and overall health; proactively identify risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Tune database performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, storage usage, and configuration improvements.
  • Manage database backup, restore, replication, recovery, and high-availability processes to meet business continuity, disaster recovery, RPO, and RTO requirements.
  • Support incident, problem, change, and release management processes in accordance with LCBO operational standards.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, cloud, vendor, and project teams to provide reliable database support for business-critical systems.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations for new database implementations, migrations, upgrades, modernization initiatives, and cloud-based database services.
  • Implement and maintain database standards, operational procedures, technical documentation, runbooks, and logical and physical database diagrams.
  • Support database security, access management, privileged access controls, audit requirements, vulnerability remediation, and compliance with LCBO security practices.
  • Assist with license management and ensure database platform usage aligns with licensing and support requirements.
  • Develop or maintain automation scripts and repeatable processes to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Participate in rotational 24x7 on-call support for critical database platforms and production incidents.
About You
  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and business experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, or related technical role.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Db2, including troubleshooting, query analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts, database architecture, backup and recovery, high availability, replication, and disaster recovery practices.
  • Experience supporting databases across multiple operating systems, including Linux, UNIX, AIX, and Windows.
  • Experience with database patching, upgrades, monitoring, lifecycle planning, capacity management, and operational support.
  • Experience with database security, access management, privileged accounts, encryption, audit requirements, and compliance practices.
  • Excellent service management skills, including incident, change, problem, and release management.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, technical diagrams, support guides and operational runbooks.
  • Willingness to participate in rotational 24x7 on-call support (one week per month).
Preferred Skills
