The Role

Reporting to the Database Administrator Team Lead, a Database Administrator Tech (DBA) assists in installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, and maintaining the databases utilized by the Versaterm software suite.

DBAs work with product managers, project managers, and clients in the planning and development of the databases, maintaining the integrity of data, and troubleshooting any technical issues. They ensure that the databases that the Versaterm software uses are optimized for the mission-critical systems that depend on them. DBAs must be knowledgeable, trustworthy, independent, and technically competent as they will be accessing and recommending and/or applying changes to live public safety systems for police agencies, fire departments, and ambulance services.

DBAs also monitor new database technologies and releases to assess their implementation within the Versaterm software suite.

What You’ll Do

• Install, upgrade and configure databases for Versaterm software on various customer, cloud, and in-house Linux-based servers
• Troubleshoot performance issues that arise with regards to the database operations
• Plan and coordinate data migration between systems
• Provide detailed knowledge of database configurations and provide optimal recommendations based on how the data is stored, accessed, and maintained
• Communicate with customer IT staff for deployment-related questions
• Handle ad-hoc technical requests where databases are concerned
• Provide technical services associated with client installations and upgrades in accordance with a target timeline
• Create and maintain internal technical documentation concerning database and client environments up-to-date

What You Bring

• Information technology certificate or diploma from a recognized school, college, or university
• Three to five years of related database administrative experience
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases and SQL
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize database performance issues
• Knowledge of best practices for database schema and query creation
• Experience with and/or expert knowledge of PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, AWS, Azure, Redis, Elasticsearch, Informix
• Excellent knowledge of Linux, VIM, and scripting languages
• Good knowledge of programming/coding
• Good written and oral English language skills
• Clear background check required
• Able to obtain PWGSC government security clearances (Canada)
