Job description

A hands-on Database Administrator who thrives in a dynamic work environment. This role is responsible for providing 24x7 support for database and BI platforms by collaborating with other database service teams, BI teams, and cross-functional IT teams to ensure high security, availability, and performance of Pet Valu's databases and BI tools. These include, but are not limited to, on-premise and cloud-based SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Snowflake, Talend, Azure Fabric, AIS, Tableau, PowerBI, and others.

This role oversees daily database and BI operations to maintain performance, security, and availability, ensuring successful execution of BI ETL processes and automated reports that meet SLAs. Proactive review of system performance, issue resolution, and involvement in IT projects to design and implement database solutions are key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure daily database operations comply with security, performance, and availability standards.
2. Monitor and tune BI ETL operations and reports to meet SLAs.
3. Provide 24x7 support for databases and BI platforms in collaboration with team members.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve database and BI issues promptly.
5. Collaborate with IT and business partners on development requests.
6. Participate in IT projects to design and implement database solutions.
7. Complete tasks timely, adhering to enterprise standards and security requirements.
8. Enhance skills and knowledge of Pet Valu's database and BI platforms through ongoing learning.
9. Support current and future database platforms, including cloud-based solutions.
10. Participate in rotated 24x7 on-call support.
11. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications

• Minimum 3 years of database administration experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Experience with production and non-production database environments, including cloud and on-premise SQL Server, Oracle.
• Experience supporting 24x7 IT operations.
• Understanding of ITIL standards and processes.
• Self-motivated with a strong eagerness to learn.
• Deep understanding of database management systems such as SQL, Oracle, Snowflake.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, source control, automated testing, and deployment.
• Experience deploying and managing application services in-house and in the cloud.
• Familiarity with version control systems and code merging.
• Knowledge of BI platforms and ETL/data integration tools like Snowflake, Tableau, PowerBI, Talend.
• Experience with data modeling and warehousing.
• Understanding of modern data architectures like data mesh, data fabric, data lake.
• Ability to collaborate with Business Analysts on requirements and validation.
• Strong debugging and technical issue resolution skills.
• Knowledge of retail systems, including POS, warehousing, distribution, and merchandising systems.
