Position Overview:

Reporting to the Platform and Systems Lead, the Database Administrator (DBA) provides enterprise-wide technical support for business-critical databases, ensuring data recoverability, integrity, security, availability, and performance. This role involves developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the corporate data environment, including integration with external databases.

As a senior technical resource, the DBA leads problem resolution, manages projects, mentors junior staff, and promotes best practices in database management. The role ensures data availability and integrity through consistent, repeatable processes while minimizing redundancy and supporting application development.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Manage day-to-day activities related to the upkeep and availability of all database servers in production and lower environments.
2. Oversee database backup and recovery functions, including scheduled tests of disaster recovery (DR) processes, with knowledge of MS SQL restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication, and Always-On.
3. Lead project teams in performing DBMS installations, configurations, and updates according to department standards.
4. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Microsoft SQL Server at Servus Credit Union.
5. Develop and enhance the database maintenance strategy for the enterprise.
6. Maintain accurate documentation related to database design, architecture, and operations.
7. Collaborate with stakeholders and developers to assess the impact of database changes.
8. Plan and coordinate database maintenance operations.
9. Work with Audit and Security teams to ensure security standards and measures are maintained.
10. Monitor and optimize database performance, availability, and resource use to meet business needs.
11. Coordinate scheduled maintenance windows and communicate effectively.
12. Provide on-call support, responding promptly as per policies and SLAs.
13. Handle unscheduled outages and performance issues through diagnosis, recovery, logging, escalation, and debriefings.
14. Perform incident diagnosis, including examining SQL statements, tables, and system architecture.
15. Tune SQL statements by rewriting, indexing, or modifying database tables.
16. Address database integration issues such as data access, migration, and maintenance.
17. Maintain database support tools and related software.
18. Participate in defining and executing Servus' Azure SQL IaaS/PaaS support model.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2022, 2019, 2017, 2016).
• Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and related tools.
• Experience configuring highly available systems with disaster recovery options.
• Experience with backups, restores, recovery models, clustering, mirroring, replication, and Always On.
• Strong experience with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
• Advanced skills in managing multi-user database environments.
• Proficiency in scripting (T-SQL), source control (git), and PowerShell (desirable).
• Experience with Azure cloud databases (desirable).
• Knowledge of schema migration tools like DBUp, Flyway, Liquibase.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting.
• Strong troubleshooting, data security, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to manage complex relational databases and data sets.
• Leadership ability and familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies.
• Understanding of virtualization technologies (Nutanix, VMWare, Azure, Windows Server).
• Knowledge of credit union financial systems and operations (desirable).
