OVERVIEW:
Working as part of a larger Database Administration team, the Database Administrator is responsible for the continued highly performant, efficient and secure operation of the database infrastructure.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Design, develop and implement database tables, views, triggers, indexes, and stored procedures to ensure data integrity for custom applications.
- Perform logical to physical model transformation, data migration, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and data warehousing.
- Work with data architecture/database design software such as ER/STUDIO.
- Responsible for all aspects of database administration including installation, configuration, performance tuning, product upgrades, security, auditing, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and high availability.
- Optimize queries, reports, and application code response time using tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, managing optimizer statistics, and SQL Profiles/baselines for tuning.The successful candidate should be intimately familiar with the Oracle Optimizer.
- Conduct database patching, including analysis, risk assessment, testing, and implementation.
- Plan and implement database-related software upgrades using best practices for mitigation of associated risk.
- Support and participate in a mature department-wide change management process.
- In partnership with our business users and application development and support staff, ensure that Alberta Blue Cross business and data needs are understood.
- Contribute innovative and transformative ideas to leverage database technology to align with the ever-changing needs of our business and customers.
- Liaise with other Information Technology staff to ensure that all operational requirements associated with the database environment are met.
- Provide production on-call support (24x7) on a rotation basis.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science or related technical diploma.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with Oracle database and Microsoft SQL Server database technology, including maintenance, troubleshooting and support.
- Experience with logical to physical model transformation, data migration, ETL, and data warehousing.
- Experience with data architecture and associated database design software is an asset.
- Previous experience in database performance tuning, including sound knowledge with respect to the workings of the Oracle Optimizer.
- Strong technical knowledge of Oracle database technology components, including Recovery Manager (RMAN), Data Guard, GoldenGate, Diagnostics and Tuning Pack, and Enterprise Manager.
- Previous experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux, including high degrees of proficiency with the RHEL command line and associated shell scripting.
- Experience with database masking and database virtualization technologies is a definite asset.
- Foundational knowledge of operating systems, networks, storage devices, along with how they relate to a database environment.
- Strong troubleshooting & application support skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for the successful candidate.
- Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Superior attention to detail demonstrated through a high degree of accuracy in completed tasks and projects.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
