Job summary

Metrolinx in Canada is seeking a Data Scientist II for a 6-month term to develop and implement predictive models for ridership and revenue projections. You will train ML models, build end-to-end data pipelines, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive data-driven decisions.

The role requires advanced SQL, Python, PySpark, and Power BI skills, with experience in Azure Databricks and AI-enabled analytics. This on-site position offers a competitive hourly rate and opportunities for extension.

Qualifications

• Degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Progressive experience in data mining, statistical analysis, and/or predictive analytics.
• Advanced knowledge and working experience with SQL, Python, PySpark Power BI.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Azure and Azure Databricks for data engineering, large-scale data processing and visualization.
• Expertise in prompt engineering and leveraging generative AI tools to accelerate data analysis and automate reporting.
• Experience with hypothesis testing, A/B tests, and predictive/prescriptive modeling.
• Proven applied machine learning modeling experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the analytical process to predict the impact of service levels on ridership and revenue.
• Train ML models to analyze, categorize and forecast service change impacts.
• Lead model creation, development and execution end-to-end.
• Quantify ridership and revenue impact of new services and customer programs.
• Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines and dimensional models.
• Identify opportunities aligned with KPIs and ROI; propose data-driven solutions.
• Mentor analytics staff and promote best practices across the team.
• Develop innovative data sourcing and tooling to advance modeling capability.
• Extract data from relational databases using SQL.
• Create AI/ML models to improve processes and KPI analysis.
