Data Governance Analyst

Responsibilities
- The Data Governance Analyst is part of the Enterprise Data Governance Team and plays a key role in advancing our data strategy and maintaining existing Data Governance Practices. The focus will be on unstructured data for the DAMP project.
- This role offers the opportunity to balance business enablement with data asset governance to ensure trust and protection of our data.
- The successful candidate will join a team of collaborative and curious colleagues dedicated to understanding, protecting, and enabling data-driven business decisions.
What you will do
- Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of data governance standards, focusing on unstructured data management.
- Implement and promote data governance practices across the enterprise.
- Collaborate with technology and business units to ensure data is well-understood and documented in our Data Inventory.
- Analyze data discovery results to identify issues related to governance, privacy, and security policies.
- Create and organize a data catalog for sensitive data elements using tools like MS Purview or Collibra.
- Address gaps in sensitive data handling, especially for unstructured data, such as encryption and data masking.
- Monitor unstructured data retention and develop solutions to ensure compliance with retention policies.
- Apply knowledge of Data Loss Prevention (DLP), encryption, classification, and privacy standards.
- Support requirement gathering and analysis for enterprise data platform initiatives.
- Assist in strategic decision-making related to data initiatives, risks, and milestones.
What you will bring
- 1-4 years of experience in data governance and AI, with a focus on unstructured data management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Agile, customer-focused mindset that simplifies processes.
- Experience in financial services or insurance is an asset.
- Must be Protected-B Clearance ready, obtained from the RCMP.
- Data certification (e.g., DGSP, CDMP) is an asset.
- Knowledge of data governance tools like Collibra or Microsoft Purview.
- Experience tracking and triaging data rule violations, especially for unstructured/digital data.
- Understanding of data governance and AI principles.
- Attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with metadata analysis, tagging, and minimal SQL coding using Databricks.
- Ability to communicate technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
- Monitoring and testing skills for data environments.
- Knowledge of data discovery tools like Big ID or Securit.ai is a plus.
Certifications Required
- Must be Protected-B Clearance ready, obtained from the RCMP.
