About The Role
Join Reboot Monkey as a Data Center Technician in Toronto, Canada. This is an onsite, independent contractor position supporting critical infrastructure at data center facilities.
Technicians will support assignments in or near Toronto, based on client requirements and available dispatches. This opportunity is intended for experienced technicians who are comfortable working independently and accepting assignments based on client demand.
Compensation
Hourly contract rate – based on experience and assignment requirements
- Paid for actual hours worked on assigned projects or tickets
- No guaranteed 8-hour workday, minimum weekly hours, or fixed schedule
- Hourly rate, payment terms, and assignment details will be confirmed during recruitment and documented in the applicable contract or Statement of Work (SOW)
- Any applicable travel allowance or additional compensation will be confirmed separately based on the assignment
Work Setup
- Independent contractor / freelance engagement
- On-demand, dispatch-based work rather than a traditional permanent position
- Assignments may range from a few hours to a full day or longer
- Work may include regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and short-notice assignments depending on client requirements
- Technicians are expected to work independently onsite and coordinate with project managers, remote engineering teams, and data center personnel
- Assignments are generally within the local Toronto area or nearby locations
- Availability and workload depend on client demand; there are no guaranteed weekly hours
- Each assignment may have specific requirements, rates, or terms outlined in the applicable SOW
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain server and network equipment
- Perform structured cabling (copper and fiber optic)
- Execute hardware deployments and decommissions
- Monitor environmental systems (power, cooling, security)
- Respond to incidents and perform troubleshooting
- Maintain accurate documentation and asset tracking
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams
- Participate in capacity planning and upgrades
- 2+ years of hands-on data center, IT infrastructure, server hardware, or related technical experience
- Hands-on experience with rack and stack operations, server installations, decommissions, and hardware deployments
- Strong structured cabling experience, including Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a and fiber optic cabling (single-mode/multimode)
- Experience with cable routing, labeling, patching, and physical connectivity troubleshooting
- Experience troubleshooting and replacing server and network hardware, such as drives, RAM, power supplies, NICs, switches, and related components
- Ability to follow technical instructions, work orders, SOPs, and safety procedures
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
