Position Requirements

It is a requirement of the position that you obtain or currently hold a valid Reliability Status screening from the Government of Canada. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electronics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, and server hardware.
  • Experience with hardware and operating systems (e.g., Linux), and networking protocols.
  • Experience with networking protocols.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and on shift-based schedules as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.

About The Job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and deploying Google's physical infrastructure. As a Data Center Technician, you'll deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure. You'll also participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

In this role, duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with various stakeholders. It will be your responsibility to ensure successful delivery of goals, missions, and projects, and to ensure they are repeatable across our global data centers. This position offers a great introduction to Google's broader development environment, with opportunities to grow within Hardware Operations or transition to software development, networking, or project management.

Our Technical Infrastructure team builds and maintains the architecture behind Google's online services, from data centers to next-generation platforms. We pride ourselves on our hands-on approach, ensuring our networks operate efficiently and our users have the best experience.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across teams.
  • Report issues and follow procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment or infrastructure issues, applying necessary resources to resolve them.
  • Maintain data security and integrity, handling media and data in accordance with Google standards.
  • Disassemble equipment at end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance.
  • Perform repairs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting independently.
