It is a requirement of the position that you obtain or currently hold a valid Reliability Status screening from the Government of Canada. Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electronics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, and server hardware.
  • Experience with hardware and operating systems (e.g., Linux), and networking protocols.
  • Experience with networking protocols.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, nights, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.
Preferred qualifications:
  • 4 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
  • Experience in project management and leadership.
  • Experience collaborating and partnering with teams.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English to support client relationship management in this region.
About The Job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and deploying the physical infrastructure behind Google's search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you'll deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure. You'll also participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

In this role, duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with various stakeholders. It will be your responsibility to ensure successful delivery of goals, missions, and projects, and to develop repeatable processes across Google's global data centers. Depending on your interests and capabilities, you may develop within Hardware Operations or transition into software development, networking, or project management groups.

Our Technical Infrastructure team develops and maintains data centers and builds platforms that support Google's products. We focus on developing, maintaining, and ensuring the performance of our networks, keeping user experiences fast and reliable.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across teams.
  • Report issues and follow procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment or infrastructure issues, applying resources to resolve them.
  • Maintain data security and integrity, including handling media and data in accordance with Google security standards.
  • Disassemble equipment at end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance within team protocols.
  • Perform repairs, preventative maintenance, and fixes on equipment, servers, and infrastructure independently.
