Job summary

Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation seeks a Data Architect to build and maintain its modern data capabilities, including architecture, platforms, and practices for trusted reporting, advanced analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.

You will design, implement, and maintain data solutions that integrate data from diverse sources and make it available across CDIC, enabling insights, better decision-making, and evolving data and AI usage.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall data architecture, continuous development, operation, and maintenance of data services and analytic tools.
  • Acquires stakeholder requirements and envisions optimal data solutions that encourage long-term compatibility, scalability and maintainability.
  • Leads the development of data products, including dashboards, visualizations, data ingestion and transformation pipelines, database design, and API design.
  • Develops and applies standardization methods to integrate data from numerous sources into corporate data systems, ensuring data integrity and interoperability with existing corporate applications and business intelligence solutions.
  • Applies data science techniques for regression and clustering.
  • Coordinates and works with other members of Technical Services to plan, implement and maintain data architectures and infrastructures.
  • Manages the BI dependency plan, job scheduling and product release-cycle.
  • Monitors performance and business use of data systems to identify areas of opportunities for optimization and enhancements.
  • Monitors industry trends, identifying and evaluating emerging data technologies, services, standards and strategies that should be adopted at CDIC.
  • Promotes the benefit of standardized business intelligence tools and methodologies across the organization.

About the role

As a Data Architect, you will play a key role in building and maintaining CDIC’s modern foundational data capabilities, including the data architecture, platforms, and practices needed to support trusted reporting, advanced analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.

You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of data solutions that integrate information from diverse sources and make it available across the organization. Through this work, you will help equip CDIC with the tools, processes, and trusted data assets needed to generate insights, strengthen decision-making, and support the evolving use of data and AI.

This role can be performed from our Ottawa or Toronto offices, following a hybrid model approach. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES required for this role

About you

Required EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or engineering or related field, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of advanced experience designing, implementing, and operating modern data solutions using the Databricks platform, including data engineering pipelines, Lakehouse architecture, scalable analytics, and integration with enterprise data services.
  • An understanding of Data Governance implementation and practice.
  • Experience exposing data through REST APIs using technologies such as FAST API.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning techniques used in modern data platforms and tools such as Mosaic, Genie, and Copilot, including natural language querying, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, predictive analytics, and large language models.
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex queries, stored procedures, and data models to support reporting, analytics, and modern data platform solutions.
  • Planning and implementation of data infrastructures, including operational data stores, and data warehouses.
  • Expertise in using a variety of technologies to deliver end-to-end solutions, including reports, dashboards and analytic data models (multi-dimensional and tabular).
  • Strong understanding of data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration concepts, designs, and practices.
  • Best practices and design patterns for data optimization methods such as de-normalization, indexing, and query execution plan analysis.
