The Job

Reporting into a highly collaborative technology function, the Specialist will design and build modern data infrastructure, develop enterprise reporting and dashboards, and implement data governance frameworks that support ethical, secure, and compliant data use. The role plays a central part in activating the Institute’s AI strategy by ensuring data is well‑structured, accessible, and ready to support advanced analytics and innovation.

This is a hands‑on role with strategic influence where priorities may shift based on organizational needs. You will work closely with IT, developers, business stakeholders, and leadership, acting as a trusted partner who translates business questions into scalable data solutions.

Key focus areas include:
  • Designing and maintaining a modern data warehouse and cloud‑based data architecture
  • Integrating data from multiple enterprise systems (CRM, LMS, finance, marketing, and other platforms)
  • Building and automating dashboards and reports used by teams across the organization
  • Establishing and operationalizing data governance, cataloging, and standards
  • Supporting organization‑wide adoption of data and analytics
  • Contributing to AI, analytics, and innovation initiatives as the Institute evolves

What You Bring to the Job

You bring a blend of technical depth, practical analytics experience, and strong communication skills, along with the confidence to operate independently in a collaborative, expert‑driven environment.

  • 3–5+ years in data analytics, data engineering, or BI roles
  • Hands‑on experience designing/building cloud‑based data warehouses or lakes (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Strong SQL (intermediate+) and Python skills for data transformation, integration, and automation
  • Experience with data pipelines, system integrations, APIs, and BI tools (Power BI or similar)
  • Knowledge of multiple enterprise systems (CRM/AMS, LMS, finance, marketing)
  • Practical experience with data governance, standards, access controls, and catalogs
  • Understanding of privacy, security, and compliance (PIPEDA, CASL, GDPR, PCI)
  • Ability to structure, document, and scale data for analytics and AI initiatives
  • Strong communicator, able to translate data insights for non‑technical audiences
  • Proven cross‑functional collaboration with IT, analysts, and business stakeholders
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable in shared ownership environments with minimal supervision
  • Curious, growth‑oriented, and interested in emerging analytics, data engineering, and AI
  • Experience in professional associations, membership‑based organizations, education, or non‑profits is an asset
