Job summary

CGIC, a leading Canadian financial services co‑operative, is seeking a Data Analyst to transform data into actionable insights within the Claims department. The role combines descriptive and diagnostic analytics, data preparation, and storytelling to support business objectives.

You will work in a hybrid model (2 days in office) with a strong emphasis on data-driven decision making, continuous improvement, and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• University degree in BI, CS, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent technical experience.
• ACAS or FCAS designations are an asset.
• 3–5 years of experience in Business Intelligence or related domain.
• Strong foundation in data analysis, programming, modeling techniques, data warehouse and data management.

Responsibilities

• Perform descriptive and diagnostic analyses using methods like regression, cohort and cluster analysis, and A/B testing.
• Design and develop metrics to enable descriptive and diagnostic insights.
• Create proof-of-concept and deliver prototype analytical solutions for storytelling and insights.
• Query data using T-SQL, SQL, MySQL, and related tools; prepare data for analysis.
• Communicate findings clearly to colleagues and management; influence decision-making.

As Data Analyst, you actively contribute to various initiatives by analyzing data to solve business problems and providing valuable insights. You understand the insurance business domain and ensure your own tasks contribute to meeting the business objectives by applying appropriate methods and critical thinking and performing analysis.

How You Will Create Impact

• Autonomously perform descriptive and diagnostic analysis using recommended methods (ex: regression, cohort analysis, cluster analysis, A/B testing, factor analysis).
• Design and develop metrics to enable descriptive analysis and diagnostic analysis.
• Autonomously design proof of concept and deliver with guidance a prototype analytical solution to enable effective storytelling and descriptive/diagnostic analysis.
• Work on Data querying (T-SQL, SQL, MySQL, etc.)
• Extract, clean, reconcile and prepare the data required for the analysis.
• Autonomously communicate findings to colleagues and your manager in an effective manner.

To Join Our Team

• You have 3-5 years of relevant experience in Business Intelligence or other relevant domain.
• You have a University Degree in Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent technical experience.
• ACAS or FCAS designations are considered an asset.
• You have experience solving standard problems by analyzing possible solutions by using our experience, judgment and precedent & challenging status quo.
• You have good knowledge and understanding of data analysis, programing, modeling techniques, data warehouse and data management, research, architecture and design.
• Experience with the following technologies is required: Sql, Python, R, Microsoft Fabric
• Experience with the following technologies is an asset: Service now , Jira, Databricks

Salary information

Expected Salary range : CAD $60,574.00 to $100,956.00 CAD

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
