Job summary

Data & AI Business Analyst is sought to support an internal data science and machine learning development team within a large financial services organization in Toronto. Hybrid work arrangement with two days in office weekly.

The role focuses on documenting model development lifecycle, governance, and insights, translating complex technical concepts into clear documentation for both technical and business audiences; you will help establish a centralized knowledge hub for model development

Qualifications

Immediate Hiring | Data & AI Business Analyst | Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

We are seeking a Data & AI Business Analyst to support an internal data science and machine learning development team within a large financial services organization.

This role is ideal for a technically minded Business Analyst who has worked closely with data scientists, machine learning teams, or AI-focused programs and is comfortable translating complex technical concepts into clear, structured documentation for both technical and business audiences.

A major focus of the role will be improving how the team captures, organizes, and leverages documentation throughout the machine learning model development lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with technical team members to document model development activities, analyses, insights, validation requirements, and key project information while helping establish a centralized knowledge repository for the team.

This is not a traditional requirements-heavy or product BA role. The ideal candidate will have strong documentation and communication skills combined with enough technical knowledge to understand data, AI/ML workflows, queries, and scripts.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner closely with data scientists, developers, and technical stakeholders supporting AI and machine learning model development initiatives
• Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation throughout the model development lifecycle
• Support documentation required for model validation and governance processes
• Translate complex technical concepts, model logic, workflows, analyses, and findings into documentation that can be understood by business stakeholders
• Help design and establish a centralized documentation and knowledge hub for model development activities
• Capture key findings, analyses, decisions, and insights from previous model-development efforts so they can be leveraged across future initiatives
• Work with technical team members to understand model workflows, dependencies, development processes, and production considerations
• Perform basic data-related activities when required, including running and validating queries and testing scripts
• Support project coordination activities and collaborate with other teams using tools such as Jira when required
• Assist with general BA and project administration activities, including access requests and project documentation
• Participate in technical discussions, project working sessions, and in-person whiteboarding sessions as needed

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst, or similar role
• Professional experience supporting data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, or data-focused initiatives
• Understanding of the machine learning/model development lifecycle, including how models move from development and testing through validation and production
• Strong experience producing technical and business-facing documentation
• Ability to communicate effectively with highly technical stakeholders and translate technical information for business audiences
• Hands-on familiarity with data querying and analysis, ideally including SQL
• Ability to understand, run, or validate technical queries and scripts
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience working across technical and business stakeholder groups
• Comfortable working independently in a highly technical, fast-moving environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience within banking or financial services
• Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages
• Experience working directly with data scientists, machine learning engineers, or AI development teams
• Experience building or maintaining centralized documentation repositories or knowledge-management frameworks
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar project/documentation platforms
• Understanding of model productionization, data workflows, and technical development processes

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can comfortably sit in a meeting with data scientists and developers, understand the technical conversation, ask intelligent questions, and then turn that information into clear, organized, reusable documentation.

You do not need to be a data scientist or machine learning engineer; however, you should have enough technical fluency to understand how data and AI solutions are developed, validated, and moved toward production. This opportunity is particularly well suited to a Data/AI-focused BA with strong technical documentation skills who enjoys bringing structure to complex technical environments.
