Responsibilities

  • Operate the DHC-8 in full compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Company Operations Manual, Aircraft Flight Manual, and SOPs.
  • Review weather and NOTAMs, determine fuel/oil requirements, and assess alternate planning.
  • Perform weight-and-balance calculations; review, amend, and accept the Operational Flight Plan (Type B 705 operation).
  • Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections before each departure.
  • Oversee and assist with loading, unloading, and securing cargo/freight as required.
  • Complete flight watch jointly with the flight dispatcher (Type B 705 operation).
  • Execute all post-flight duties, including reporting aircraft whereabouts away from base, and recording flight times and defects.
  • Uphold and continually meet/exceed Transport Canada qualification standards and perform additional duties as assigned.

About the Role

As a Thompson-based Captain on the DHC-8, your first priority is safety—always—while balancing passenger comfort and on-time performance. You’ll carry thousands of passengers each year across a northern network where your professionalism directly impacts community access to essential services.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate the DHC-8 in full compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Company Operations Manual, Aircraft Flight Manual, and SOPs.
  • Review weather and NOTAMs, determine fuel/oil requirements, and assess alternate planning.

What You Bring
  • Licensing & Medical: Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), Group 1 Instrument Rating, and Category 1 Medical.
  • Experience: 500+ hours on type (DHC-8) and 500+ multi-engine hours.
  • Security: Ability to obtain and maintain required transportation security clearances and authorizations.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Communication: Fluency in English with strong verbal, listening, and written skills.
  • Professional qualities: Flexible and calm under pressure; respectful, positive, and team-oriented; strong problem-solving and decision-making; unwavering integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Community awareness: Genuine respect and understanding for First Nations communities; Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training is an asset.
  • Nice to have: Previous airline experience.
Working Conditions
  • Operate in indoor and outdoor environments across all weather conditions typical of northern operations.
  • Travel via company aircraft and other means; flexibility to be away from base for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; physically able to perform all required duties.
  • Work a flexible schedule aligned to operational needs and on-time performance standards.
